Course Overview

This video explains the sources of background radiation, the nature of radiation, and other sources of radiation, such as medical and dental x-rays. Federally established exposure limits are explained. Methods of monitoring work-related radiation and the frequency of training with regard to radiation safety awareness are also discussed. Proper accident evaluation and emergency response and evacuation procedures for incidents involving radiation sources are covered, along with tips for communicating with emergency response teams. This Video On Demand shows the relationship between the distance from radiation sources and the amount of exposure and the use of shielding and warning lights to control radiation exposure. Viewers are urged to ask employers about potential radiation exposures in their work area and to assume personal responsibility for their own safety.
